An event not to be missed

On the occasion of the 297th National Council of CONI, held in Milan on July 26th at the headquarters of the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation, President Giovanni Malagò announced that Busto Arsizio (VA) will be the host city for the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualification Tournament 2024. The designation of this tournament falls under the authority of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and it will determine the allocation of Olympic slots.

For this assignment, CONI has officially designated the Italian Boxing Federation as the Organizing Committee.

For the first time in Italy, an event of this magnitude will be organized, sponsored and supported by the Minister for Sport and Youth - Department for Sport of the CDM, the Lombardy Region, and the City of Busto Arsizio, as well as by Federalberghi Varese and the Chamber of Commerce.

From March 3rd to 11th, 2024, the gloves of athletes from all over the world will take center stage in the Lombardy Region, which has previously hosted the 2009 AIBA Elite World Championships at the Forum in Assago - Milan, featuring medalists from the 2008 Beijing Olympics and a series of major international professional boxing events.

The event will take place in Busto Arsizio, in the province of Varese, at the well-known e-work ARENA.

The 2023 European Games in Krakow assigned the first boxing slots for the 2024 Paris Olympics, 22 for men and 22 for women.

The Busto Arsizio Tournament will allocate:

21 Olympic slots for women
4 for 50 kg
4 for 54 kg
2 for 57 kg
3 for 60 kg
4 for 66 kg
4 for 75 kg

28 Olympic slots for men
4 for 51 kg
4 for 57 kg
4 for 63.5 kg
4 for 71 kg
4 for 80 kg
4 for 92 kg
4 for +92 kg

Italy has already secured 4 Olympic slots in Cracow:
Giordana Sorrentino 50 kg, Irma Testa 57 Kg,
Salvatore Cavallaro 80 Kg, and Aziz Abbes Mouhiidine 92 kg.
